I'd like to assign chapter 8 that is called 'Teachers Are Key for Students'. What do you think this title means? Is intelligence malleable? What do scientists think about the intelligence ? Which do you believe has a bigger impact on intelligence: your genes or your environment? Why do you think this? Write your reflections by referring to the text.

This week our text was about different ways of learning, difficulties of school, teachers, memory and intelligence. This text was well organized and it was different from others. Because the author used questioning technique and he asked 4 main questions throughout the text. The first question was why it is so difficult to make school enjoyable for students. The author implied school means hard work and, making no mistakes. So, school is boring for pupils. I agree with him because I am also a student who knows what school means: exams and never ending mental work!! However as the writer said "neither is hammering away at a problem with no sense you are making progress." The Second question of our text was if memory is the residue of thought. This part implied that teachers lead and provide more of remembering and learning. The writer gave us a very good example that is "During frog dissection, are students thinking about anatomy or that they find it gross?" after reading this example I understood that when a teacher shows us where will we focus and learn healthy. The third question was about learning ways that means which is the best way of the learning: visual, auditory or kinesthetic. The author concluded that there is no evidence about which way is the best for learning. In fact, it is definite that every individual has different ways of learning and based on their learning style they should enhance their learning in a class. For example, I know that I am a visual learner, which suggests that I mostly benefit from pictures, graphs or written things on board while learning. However,some other students may dislike these as they are auditory or kinesthetic. The Last question was about getting cleverer. I totally agree with the author's answer that is intelligence is mostly inherited but environment affects person's intelligence. Additionally, he argued if a person should engage in intellectual activities such as watching less television, reading newspaper, watching informative documentaries, finding well-written books.

YanıtlaSilLast week our chapter’s title was “Teachers Are Key For Students.”Actually,what the title said is true ,because we-all human range- born without knowlage.We learn everything from our enviroment.If there was no teacher to teach us everything ,we would learn evertything very slowly.That’s why teachers are key for us.In the first paragraph of the passage, difficulties of thinkig were explained.Next question asked that “ After we’ve learnt about the mind and brain ,why is it so difficult to make school enjoyable for students?”We can infer the reason of this situation from the passage easily.According to passage school is hard and mistakes are not acceptable.On the contrary, most of the people like mental works.For instance, I really like playing chess and solving math and physics problem.It maybe enjoyable for me ,but might not be enjoyable for others.Another challange is memorise everything easily.If you want to learn something you must keep them on your mind.By the way you must have max. Capacity of memory in order to not to forget the things.Finally, most of people believe that if you are not intelligent, you will not able to learn.That is a big lie ,and they believed that intelligence iis inherited.Scientists have also believed that it was true until 80s.Scientists found that we can get smarter ourselves.If you want to get smarter you should follow the sectets of this issue.You can get smarter by making more mental circumties.For example, I was solving the physics problems without using pencil and paper when I was studying in high school,and you must wacth documenteries and read newspapers if you want to get smarter.To sum up I really like this passage,because I haven’t read such a passage before.I was imperresed by tecnique of author.I really like it.We learn these things tanks to author.I strongly recommend to read it to my frineds. No matter who you are you should read it.
YanıtlaSilThis week our topic was ‘‘Teachers are Key for Students.’’The topic was related teachers,students and learning styles.I find it interesting because ı learned many different information.First of all, I think,intellegence is malleable and it can be improved.In the past scientist believed that intellegence was inherited but today they know that it is not inherited.Environment is effected it.We can become more intellegent by reading boks,watching documateries..etc.Secondly,teacher really effect our life.For example, my high school literature teacher.she changed my life.Lastly,In the passage, author implied there was no evidence for differences in learning styles.In my opinion, it is not true because every people have different learning styles.
YanıtlaSilIn the schools,there are so many intelligent students,but when some of them can succeed in their school life.On the contrary,some of them don’t.In fact there are several researchs related to this topic.Almost many of the surveys prove that teacher is one of the most effective milestones in accomplishment of students because during the school life,teacher and student affect each other.If teacher teach way of the success to his or her own students efficiently,ın my opinion,each students can be successful in the life of the education.For instance,as the author say that ‘‘A visual learner understands and remembers better by seeing than other learning styles.On the other hand,a kinesthetic learner understands better by touching than other.’’I am favor of the idea.Therefore,the teacher should recognize each students closely .In other words,the teacher should know their student’s personal trait.Another section in the text ‘‘ Weather the intelligence is inherited’’I think, intelligence is inherited because many researchs prove this topic.If you want to be intelligent you can read a lot of books, newspapers.You can also do mental exercises
YanıtlaSilWe read a text about teachers and students. I think this week’s topic is more interesting than last week’s topic. I learned a lot of information from the text.According to passage in the past most scientist thought that intelligence was mostly inherited but now they think environment affected intelligence. I agree on this idea and also I agree on Öykü’s sentence. We can become more intelligent with reading books and watching movies or documentaries. The reading text’s title is ‘Teacher Are Key for Students.’ In my opinion teachers are important for students because students learn a lot of information from teacher. Some students don’t like school because they spent almost all day at school and they think it is boring and tiring but it is benefical and also relationship between students and teachers is very important. For example I loved my primary school’s tearcher very much. She was good at math and also my all classmates good at math. When I read the passage, I was surprised because according to passage people don’t have different learning styles. I completely don’t agree on this idea. In my opinion all students have different learning styles. Some students learn with music and some students learn with picture and shape. For example one of my friends always try to learn some information with rhythm and also another else try to learn with drawing picture and they never forget them which they learned. To sum up the reading text was informational and I realized that teachers are the best for students one more time.
YanıtlaSilFirst of all,I understood this passage easily because style of writing was easy to understand.'Teachers are key for students' was very good title because this title implied what this passage mentioned in every part.I think that intelligence is malleable because this passage stated that''Now scientists think that those early studies underestimated the effect of the environment. First, adoptive families probably don't vary that much — they are generally supportive and emphasize success in school. Second, other data have shown that moving kids from low-quality to high-quality schools boosts IQ scores.''Therefore,Environment is more effective than genes the intelligence of children.The author wrote that''To fight many problems, teachers must engage each student with work that is appropriate for his or her level of preparation. This must be done sensitively, so that students who are behind don't feel like second-class citizens.''I totally agree author because this learning style is very common and useful.To sum up,I enjoyed to read this passage because there were not any complicated and confusing sentences.
YanıtlaSilWe read the passage about teachers are key for students.The passage was too ordinary.Firstly,it mentioned about why don't students like school?Some students believe that it is hard,some students believe that that it is so bored.I think I agree with all of them.Secondly,it mentioned about mental work.According to passage,people do enjoy mental work.I don't think so.They are so bored for me.Also,solving a problem is not enjoyable.Thirdly,it mentioned about ways of learning.There are a lot of ways of learning.Scientist advise the most appropriate way for students because it depends on traits.Therefore,everyone should choose his own ways.Finally,it mentioned about how can we all get smarter?Scientist said intelligence depended on inherit in the past ,but now they say intelligence depends on environment.I think it depends on environment.To sum up,everyone should make own schedule.

YanıtlaSilWe read and talked about the passage name with Teachers Are Key for Students. That passage is more understandable than last weeks’ reading passage. I learned a lot of information again. Teachers are really important for students’ education lives. They can become aware of our ability, they can discover our talents and process us. Teachers can affect our lives. Success is not related only students, teachers, gene sor environment. I don’t agree with the author. All of the students have different learning style. I think, intelligence is not malleable. Scientists believe that intelligence is inherited and in my opinion, intelligence is largely genetic. There is a little bit beneficial of environment and nutrition. Therefore, teachers have significant place in students’ lives.

YanıtlaSilThis week, we talked about ‘Teachers Are Key For Students.’ So,what we have learned about it? As I mention,I have learned about substantial information about this subject.For example,so far,we read lots of parts,but this fragment was interested me among the others.I liked that because of author’s questioning technique.It was benefical for me.First of all,author asked four major questions about teachers,students,and schools.In the first question,author asked,’’After all we’ve learned about the mind and brain,why is it so difficult to make school enjoyable for students?’’I want to ask that question.If teachers will give the homework to his/her students,also you place students under an obligation,here you are,it is a fact that it wouldn’t be enjoyable for students.Because students are forcing to have somethings.In the second question,author asked,’’You say that ‘Memory is the residue of thought.’Why do we remember what we remember?’’It was implied that if the teachers will use visual and drawing methods in stead of writing method in the class,it would be more useful for students.While learning about a topic,you should live through,like as you should suppose in anatomy class such as frog dissection.In the third question,author asked,’’Ninety percent of people think they’re either a visual,auditory or kinesthetic learner.What does that mean?And why do you say that they are wrong?’’This question was about what is the best way of the learning for students in their schools?Are you a visual,an auditory,or a kinesthetic learner?According to the author,there isn’t any proof about what is the best way of learning.In my opinion,it changes from student to student.For instance,Ali is a visual learner,Veli is an auditory learner,but Osman is a kinesthetic learner.Everyone has a different ability to understand such as the previous example. That’s simple.In fourth question,author asked,’’You say that intelligence is much more malleable than most people believe.How can we all get smarter?’’According to the author,getting cleverer is mostly inherited.I agree with him/her,because of statistical data in research.In fact,being smarter isn’t difficult as previously thought.In the meantime,author showed that ‘The secret to getting smarter is really not a big secret : engage in intellectual activities.Read the newspaper,watch informative documentaries,find well-written books.Perhaps most important : watch less TV.It’s rarely enriching,and it’s an enormous waste of time.’As we have seen,I agree with the author’s idea.We clearly see that in the daily life examples of fourth question’s responses.

This week we read "Teachers are Key for Students." As usual,I could learn a lot of information in the text.In this reading text,the author posed several questions and then s/he explained all of them.In my opinion,the author's method was interesting and logical for drawing attention because I wasn't bored when I read it.In addition, as a matter of fact most of the students don't like school,but nobody knows why they don't like it.In this text, my question was answered by the author.S/he said that teachers have a lot of effect on students about learning something and I agree this idea.For example, I was interested in maths class by force my primary school teacher.Secondly,the author said that there was no evidence for differences in learning styles.It's personal opinion and I don't agree.Each person has different personality and learning styles.For instance,some people can learn better by writing but somebody can learn easier by seeing.To sum up,for all intents and purposes,teachers are the most important key for students' achievements.
