  1. Highs and Lows in Self-Esteem
I totally agree that Robin said: 'During adolescence, girls' self-esteem dropped about twicw as much as boys.' I think like that writer said: 'Perhaps at least partially because of society's heavy emphasis on body image for girls.' Before I didn't read this reading text,I thought that this situation is only in Turkey. The 5th line indicated that: ' ...starting with an inflated sense of self-approval in late childhood...' , and I agree on it.In my opinion,a person's self-esteem is the highest during childhood. When I was a child,I wasn't afraid of anything or anyone. That is, I behaved against people what I want to do or I spoke impulsively because in that time I didn't care another people's what to did. However,my self-esteem changes during my adolescence because academic and social pressures in the new environment for me.I really like this passage and, writer informed us about changing self-esteem and I like that writer gave examples from other people's lives.

  2. This week our topic was Highs and Lows in Self-Esteem.I think the topic was interesting and everybody have some thing to say.I generally agree with writer expect childhood part in my opinion childhood seems like very high slef-esteem but i think not because when i was child i'm afraid of everything you darkness , high placeses , my brother and foreign people etc. When i look at now i'm not afraid of all these things. I like the authors expression the paragraph because writer gave real life stories and examples. The author mention roller-coaster example i think it was great because as you know self-esteem is bumpy thing in our lives and roller-coaster analogy was really express the situation.

  3. This week, our text was about self-esteem and this subject was rotting boring because I slogged to read. It contained a lot of unknown words. The words were so difficult that I was able to understand the subject after I read it three times, I understood the subject. Our text consisted of 3 parts. The first part told that there was a study which researched how our age affects our self-esteem's level. And this part implied that, self-esteem level is the highest in the childhood and the lowest in the adolescence. I agree with this idea. Age is important for our self-assurance but I think there are more important things than age which determine the level of our self-esteem, which is the style in which you were brought up. If a child grows up in a healthy environment he/she will have greater self-regard. On the other hand, if he/she grows up in a spoilt environment which contains violence, sauciness, or abasement, he/she won't have lower confidence in his/her capabilities. Therefore, the way you were brought up is more important than stage of life to determine your level of esteem.
Second part of our text told about a study which was made by Richard Robins who is a psychology professor at the University of California at Davis. At the end of the study, as Robin explained, as we get older, we base our self-esteem on actual achievements and feedback from the other people. I agree with him. In addition, there is one more explanation at the end of the part which is "girls' self- esteem dropped about twice as much as boys," and Robin argued about that this is "perhaps at least partially because of society's heavy emphasis on body image for girls." I certainly adopted this idea as it is very logical. Today, all the girls who are not as beautiful as the models on TV perceive themselves ugly and this negatively impacts the way they perceive their esteem.
The last part of our text implied that there are many factors which influence our self-assurance. As I said at the beginning of the journal, the way you are raised is the most important thing on self-esteem. In addition, as Robin implied, people can be raised awareness by this study in some situations which include battering throes and they can cope with their throes.

  4. Last week, we read the passage about highs and lows in self esteem.I learned interesting things about self esteem. Person’s self esteem changes during their lifespan. Especially it depends on people’s age.According to the passage self esteem is the highest in the childhood. In my opinion,it’s definitely true. When I was a child,I always trusted myself and I wasn’t afraid of anything.Self esteem is the lowest in old ages.In the passage, Richard Robins who is psycology professor at the University of California at Davis said '' as we get older, we base our self-esteem on actual achievements and feedback from the other people.'' I don’t agree with him.I think self esteem should be rised in old ages because older people have much more experience about life .

  5. That week, we read a passage about self-esteem. According to passage, some people have a lot of problems their lives’ periods. For example they generally have problems in their childhood, adolescence or adulthood. Some adolescence generally have depressing life. They can be in depression. However as time goes on, people’s personalities and self-esteem can change. They can be happier in the future. Sometimes some adults have these type of problems. They can lose their self-esteem and self-confidence. At this event, hormons can be influence.I am always self-esteem, self confidence and happy during my life. While I was an adolescence and childhood, I wasn’t depressing and roller coaster any time.I hope my life continues like this.

  7. This text teached us some specific things related to self-esteem.Actually,this topic is one of the most important texts for understanding psychology of human because self-esteem is really effective on psychology. As the author say that self-esteem sometimes can increases in the life of human in contrast sometimes it can also decreases.First of all, in childhood, most of the children don’t awere of the self-esteem in my opinion they always think about game, joke in this time of their life.Actually, this is the true one because game is the most significant thing for them. I can say that game associate with composing self-esteem. I mean,I don’t agree with the authot ,most of the children don’t notice the self-esteem.Secondly,in adolescence people generally win self-esteem from childhood because it no longer has composed. In this term of life ,this rate increases because people want to accept themselves to public in my opinion this way is the most suitable one for them.Besides in young adulthood people generally follow effects of adolescense because they don’t escape from this situation exactly. In adulthood, this rate decreases in the life of people because they have already obtained somethings like social status, position in job…etc. Therefore,in my opinion, this rate stays equal according to previous term, but some events might be change these rate such as accident, death…etc.Consequently,I can say that self-esteem can chance from person to person, but self-esteem is one of the most important things for self confidence

  8. The Highs and Lows in Self-Esteem was our topic in last week.Frankly, it was very hard topic.I couldn’t understand at first.I understood at the seceond time that I read.Self-Esteem was exampled like roller coaster.Self – esteem can increase and decrase like roller coaster. When the self –esteem peaked ,it can start decreasing. We can find the examples from the passage “ I’ve gone trought pertty much all of those cycles” Fred Gould said who is at 60 retired man. Also ,”As a teenager ,I can definitely speak for all of us when I say we bag on our self”Aly said.”Dr. Robins was intrigued by the similaritiesin self esteem leves between adolescence and old age .”The drop in old age is a little bit more novel” he said.He applied a survey on people who are from 9 to 90.We can infer from the survey self esteem can affect by a number of things that are biological, social, and situational, but there are certain passages that all of us face. That study indicated that women do not fare as well as men in self esteem.Reason is society. We can clearly understand that self esteem can increase-decrease in different period of lifespan.

  9. Last weak we read a passage about Self-Esteem. According to study in the reading, self-esteem is generally high during childhood and adulthood. I agree on this information because when I was a child, I was extrovert. I wasn’t afraid anything. My self- esteem changed during the adolesence. According to passage during the adolescence, girls’ self- esteem dropped about twice as much as boys. I agree on this information, too because when I was in adolescence I was more introvert and shier. I believed that I won’t success but my cousin always relied on himself. We are at the same age but he wasn’t succesful anymore. Even so he still relys on himself and also I think self-esteem change with parents because adolescent who has a good relationship with their parents are more likely to have high self-esteem.

  10. Highs and Lows in Self-Esteem

This week, we talked about ‘ Highs and Lows in Self-Esteem . ’ So, what we have learned about it? As I mention, I have learned about a lot of important information about this subject. For example, according to the passage, ’A study of about 350,000 people likens a person’s self-esteem across the human lifespan to a roller coaster ride, starting with an inflated sense of self-approval in late childhood that plunges in adolescence . ’ When I read this sentence first, it attracted attention. What a nice example about self-esteem; roller coaster. In fact, self-esteem is a kind of recess-protrusion. Let’s suppose that you are a young child. In this term of your childhood, your self-esteem is the highest. You trust yourself about all matters or you are not afraid of anything else. As you grew, for instance, when you enter adolescence your self-esteem decreases. I agree with that. As a teenager, you may be excluded for any reason by your friend. Therefore, your self-esteem may be reduce. According to the text, your self esteem is the lowest in adolescence. If you have grown bigger than other terms, situations are stabilize. In other words, neither your self-esteem is the lowest nor is the highest. This term’s name is young adulthood. Shortly thereafter, you are an adult. You have a big responsibilitity. Your self-esteem is higher than adolescence and young adulthood, but it isn’t high as quite as childhood. To summarize, your self-esteem is bumpy throughout in your life just like a roller coaster.
